Art Assets for “Dust Brawl”

What’s This?

Dust Brawl is a point-and-click shooter I helped make in a group project. I was tasked with making most of its art assets. The game is about the prime minister of the together territories seeking shelter in his gray hut from mutant dust bunnies. The player, a military general, defends the gray hut in a military chopper, shooting the dust bunnies from above.

My Process

I drew whatever the team wanted from me in Piskel. I was tasked with designing a few enemies that attacked in unique ways, the protagonist, the prime minister, and the power ups. The enemies would be variations of dust bunnies. Some would be frenzied and go super fast, while others would use umbrellas to defend themselves. The power ups would change how the player’s shots fired. Some examples being a freeze ray and a buckshot.

I didn’t receive a ton of criticism for these works. The only gripe the team had was the original chopper design looked too pixelated. Besides that, there were also some changes in development. The power-ups and some enemies had to be scrapped for time, and a new giant enemy was in the works to help make the game more memorable.
